SHOPPING & SPAS
Shopping
Edinburgh has something for everyone – whether it is famous brand labels, tartan tat, individual boutiques, and all types of gift stores or department store chic. It is a shopper friendly city with many outlets coexisting with tourist attractions in the old town and the new town. So, it is easy to mix sightseeing and shopping in the same day!
In the New Town you can start the shopping extravaganza at Multrees Walk where you can pick up the latest styles from some of the world’s most exclusive international designers, before enjoying a well earned break and a reviving glass of bubbly at Harvey Nichols’ rooftop bar and restaurant. The views over the city are stunning and, of course, this can count as a sightseeing activity too!
Refreshed and time to cruise along George Street a premier shopping destination in its own right. Here you can find designer shops such as Cruise, Phase Eight Brooks Brothers, Austin Reed and Karen Millen, to Jewellers such as Hamilton & Inches and Lime Blue, unique perfumes and fragrances from Joe Malone and even Greys a long established hardware store. George Street also has some of Edinburgh’s most popular wining and dining venues so there are plenty of opportunities to keep the energy up.
Jenners, at the corner of Princes Street and South St David Street, is a venerable institution and often described as the Harrods of the North. It is the world’s oldest department store yet offers a modern retail experience in an elegant surrounding.
Edinburgh’s main shopping street is Prince’s Street. The north side is resplendent with department stores and retail chains including Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, H&M and Topshop. There are also bookstores, music megastores and shops selling distinctly Scottish gifts. On the south side of the street are Prince’s Street Gardens which are just perfect for chilling out in between shopping bouts.
In the Old Town the Royal Mile has many gift shops for the family back home whilst Cockburn Street is reminiscent of London’s Carnaby Street with a plethora of alternative options. It is also worth meandering down Victoria Street to the Grassmarket. Here you will find many boutiques and interesting places to while away the afternoon.
